HURRICANE HELENE SURVIVOR
On September 26 & 27, 2024, Hurricane Helene brought heavy rains to Western North Carolina, flooding much of the region.
This piece was submerged under 15 feet of water in Foundation Woodworks on Foundy Street in Asheville for well over 48 hours. Once waters had receded and the owners were able to re-enter the building, it was miraculously found amongst mud and other debris. It was a tiny symbol of survival and persistence amidst a sea of destruction.
It shows the marks of its journey in the form of its new patina, caused by prolonged submersion in the floodwaters. Some might view these new imperfections as flaws, but they are intentionally preserved to tell the story of its resilience
This piece has been thoroughly cleaned and resealed.
May it be a reminder of the hope and strength of our region and its people.
